Lemonade – Lebur Shorbot (লেবুর শরবত)

Shuvo Noboborsho! Happy New year! You might think why am I in the middle of the year wishing you happy new year! It is because in Bangladesh, we have Bangla Calender which started 1431 years ago. We start Bangla year from summer which is called Boishakh. Boishakh begins around April when it is really hot and humid in Bangladesh. During summer, lebur shorbot or lemonade is one of the most easiest, popular drink. It is refreshing, full of vitamin C and helps in balancing electrolytes in the body, when body loses lots of salt sweating.

In Bangladesh we have different kinds of lemon/lime. However in Denmark, there’s only two kinds can be found, so I chose the lime because it tastes closer to one of the lemon varieties of Bangladesh. But you can make lemonade with any lemon/lime you have. For sweetener, you can use either sugar or honey or even stevia, whatever suits you best.

So first, we squeeze the lemon using a squeezer or hand. Remember that, lemon has lots of vitamin C and this particular vitamin loses its quality if being left for long time or being warmed. So whenever you want to drink lemonade, make it fresh.

Then I have gathered the juices in a bowl (or you can use a pitcher) and added sugar.

Now, in a glass full of water, I added a tablespoon of sugar-lemon solution. You can add more if you like it strong! You can also add other flavours like mint or fruit juices.

Voila! Here you have refreshing lemonade! Decorate with ice cubes or mint leaves. Enjoy it during hot sunny days.
