The national fruit of Bangladesh is Jackfruit, which looks almost like famous Durian but way bigger. Jackfruit is mostly eaten as a ripe fruit but it is often eaten as a vegetable when harvested unripe. Nowadays, green jackfruit are a popular vegan option in the world, but in Bangladesh, green/unripe jackfruit are eaten as a curry for centuries. That’s why green jackfruit is called “Gach Patha” (Plant Goat)!
Bangladesh has both vegan, vegetarian and non-vegetarian street food options. Among vegan street food, fuchka, daal puri, alu puri, bhapa pitha, chitoi pitha are the most popular.
