Today’s recipe is the fastest recipe I have ever made in Vegan Bangla. Usually when we make bhorrta (spread), it tends to be easier and faster than other Bangladeshi recipes. I am going to make green coriander spread today, which has many others ways to make. Remember this is not a chatni recipe. Chatni is usually little runny in consistency and you eat chatni with snacks or finger food.

For this recipe, we need coriander (of course), green chili, garlic, salt and tamarind. Tamarind makes this recipe a bit special, but as I have mentioned earlier, there are many different ways to make coriander spread with or without tamarind. I love with it because it reminds of my childhood.

First of all, we need to heat a little bit of vegetable oil in a pan and add garlic and green chilies. Now the best thing about this recipe is that there’s no specific measurement of the ingredients. You increase or decrease the amount of ingredients you like. I really like it spicy, so I added a lot of green chili and tamarind to my taste.

When chilies and garlic got little bit sauteed, I added washed green coriander, tamarind and salt to the pan. I have added almost 200g of coriander for this recipe.

Coriander leaves are getting reduced in volume. I keep them stirring to make the process quicker.

As you can notice, waters being released from the leaves. Therefore, we don’t need to add any extra water.

Just like any other leafy green, coriander leaves got reduced in volume so much, it almost seems too less compared to other ingredients. But don’t worry, this is gonna taste amazing. Also I have checked with the spoon if the garlic are cooked as well.

Now its time to blend all the cooked ingredients. I let them to cool down a bit before blending. I used a hand blender and blended it as smooth as I could.

Normally in Bangladesh, we use this Pata-Puta (a Bangladeshi style mortar – pestle) to make bhorrta. It is the best tool to make bhorrta and makes your bhorrta so smooth! I miss it so much.

This is how it looks like after blending. It was so spicy and so delicious that I ate a full bowl of rice only with this! We also eat this coriander spread with our favourite Chitoi pitha (rice cake), which I will add to my blog some other day!
